Tolu Bankole, Computer Science student

Why did you choose Lakehead-Georgian?

I needed a program that provided both hands on and theoretical learning experiences, this partnership program with Lakehead University and Georgian College provides that.

What has been the most memorable part of your education so far?

In our first semester, we had a course called the Internet of Things. At the end of the semester we had a final project to complete and our instructor told us the project could be whatever we wanted it to be. This allowed us to be creative – to think outside the box and not be limited to our ideas.

What do you like most about the program?

The small class sizes has allowed me to have more one-on-one support with the instructors and invaluable learning experience and opportunities. Faculty are eager to help you and ensure you understand the concepts and set you up for success.

If you were to recommend this program to a friend, what would you say?

I would tell them not to think twice about this program as it is is the only program of its type that gives you amazing exposure to the IT and Computer Science profession. I would also tell them to consider what they want from their education. Do you want small class sizes where you know your instructors? Do your research.

What advice would you give to future Lakehead-Georgian students?

Expect to be challenged and encouraged. Most of all, work hard because a lot of your impactful learning happens outside of the classroom.

What are your plans after graduation?

Hopefully start my own company.
